Roy’s Background
Roy Heintz has been synonymous with “Championship Success” for over three decades, as a basketball coach, a business leader, and as a professional speaker for corporations, organizations, and professional and intercollegiate athletic teams across the nation and around the globe. His entertaining and dynamic style, coupled with his informative and impactful teaching has made him a much sought-after speaker.
Heintz is also a published author with his book LEAD Like A Coach: A Proven Way To Stimulate Engagement And Productivity which hit the market in July of 2021 and has seen a number of companies large and small engage Roy to work with their executive leadership to learn about and adopt this leadership style. The book is available through Amazon.
Currently, Heintz resides in Atlanta where he serves as a senior executive leader and National Director of Service Excellence for Atlanta’s Reliable Roofing. His knowledge and experience in leadership development, culture development, organizational development and training, and customer experience excellence, are helping them grow into a national roofing leader in the multi-family housing market across the country, as they’ve experienced enormous growth during his leadership tenure.
Prior to retiring from coaching in June 2016, Heintz served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Florida State University, Stetson University, and Eckerd College where he was an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.
As a head coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Covenant College, Heintz’s teams won championships at each stop along his career path, garnering him a reputation as a “turnaround specialist” by turning losing programs into champions. As a high school coach and Director of Athletics at The First Academy in Orlando, he built the program into one of the strongest in the state and won back-to-back state championships. He was inducted into their Hall of Fame as both a championship coach and Director of Athletics.
For almost four decades, Heintz has also earned acclaim as a dynamic professional speaker and master of ceremonies around the globe working with numerous corporations, non-profit organizations, professional and intercollegiate sports teams, and ministries. He served seven seasons as the chaplain for the NBA Orlando Magic, two seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals baseball organization, and spoke for several NFL and NCAA teams.
Outside his time as a coach and speaker, Heintz has also worked as a game analyst and studio host on television and radio, working for media outlets like ESPN, FOX Sports, SUN Sports, and hosted a 3-show pilot series called Cornerstone Sports. In 2023 he co-founded the Oglethorpe Sports Network, doing on-air play-by-play and analyst work for NCAA Division III athletic events.
A former Hall of Fame high school student-athlete, Heintz is now competing nationally in Master’s track & field competitions in the shot put, earning 6 gold medals, one silver medals, and one bronze in eight events in 2023. In July 2023 he competed in his first USA Track & Field Masters National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina finishing eleventh in the country. He is also the Georgia state record holder in his weight class in the bench press for the 55-59-year-old and 60-64-year-old age groups.
In addition to his new book, his creative side has seen him spend time writing, producing, and acting in numerous projects including a television commercial that was awarded the distinction of being the #2 rated commercial in the world by an international panel. He also dabbled doing stand-up comedy and is an active learner and voracious reader of all things. He is working on a second book project, as well as an accompanying children’s book.
He serves on the National Small Business Association’s Leadership Council, as well as a board member for the international organization DADCAMP.
He and his wife Sharon have been married for almost four decades, he has a daughter Sarah, a son-in-law Ryan, and two incredibly awesome grandchildren, Emily and Andrew.
